95 Points from Wine Advocate! The Most Highly Rated Nebbiolo made in America in 2019!

I always love the Nebbiolo from Giornata, which captures California fruit and traditional Italian style. Pale garnet, the 2019 Nebbiolo is scented of sour cherries, graphite, leather, tea leaves, incense and Angostura bitters. The medium-bodied palate features a detailed core of red fruit, a chalky, fresh frame and a long, complex finish. I could drink this every day!

Tasting Notes: Aromas of tar, fruit leather, cherry compote and barnyard. The 2019 Nebbiolo is on the luscious side but still retains a fierce grip with ample chalky tannins. On the palate there are tart cherries, chalk, licorice and a tarry finish.

Nebbiolo: Giornata's Nebbiolo pays homage to the great wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It matures for about 24 months in oak and over 6 months in bottle prior to release. It is well structured and built to age. Utilizing a lengthy postfermentation maceration on its skins, its formidable tannin is refined to a cellar-worthy, yet immediately approachable profile.

Giornata Wines...Inspired by Italy - Crafted in California

Giornata makes authentic, complex and balanced wines in Paso Robles, CA featuring Italian grape varieties. The journey in creating Giornata started with a dream to create wines from Italian grapes grown in California employing the sensibility and philosophy of Italian winemaking. Giornata works with the same grape vines (clonal material) as the best producers in Italy. The Central Coast of California posseses many of the attributes of the top wine growing regions of Italy. Giornata's winemaking style leans more Italian than Californian in that they favor wines with balance and subtlety rather than intensity and extraction. They pick their grapes at lower sugar levels and handle their must gently in the cellar, thus resulting in wines that belong on the Italian dinner table possesing both ample acidity and tannin. Traveling to Italy on a regular basis, Giornata continues to receive feedback on their efforts while researching Italian winemaking and viticultural methods.
