Cioppino is a traditional Italian style seafood stew which originated in San Francisco. Our San Francisco Style Cioppino sauce is a chunky, red sauce made with crushed tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, celery, garlic, olive oil, green bell peppers, red chili peppers, sea salt and spices. Add fresh seafood for our sauce for a delicious Italian fish stew.
Heat Cioppino sauce in a large pot. Add 10 live clams and/or mussels in shells. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Check often (remove as they open, discard unopened ones). Add 1/2 lb. firm white fish (cod or halibut), cut into bite-sized pieces and simmer for 5 minutes. Add 8-10 medium to large uncooked shrimp (shelled & deveined), 1 cooked crab (cracked, cleaned & sectioned), clams & mussels. Cover and simmer for an additiona 6-8 minutes.
