Originally from Sicily, cannolicchi are short, well-defined spiral shaped pasta similar to razor clams of the Adriatic. Pasta has a central hole that's perfect for accommodating sauce inside. Cannolicchi are ideal accompanying a large variety of sauces, from  vegetables based to more full-bodied meat sauces. Serve with clams, mussels or any shellfish sauce. Use in fish soups instead of crostini or potatoes. Also wonderful with pesto and string beans cut the same length as the short tubes.
